After using DasBlog for several months, I decided to move my blog account over to WordPress. DasBlog was nice, but I was frustrated by the lack of features. I’m still hosting my own blog, but it’s all moved over to WordPress now.
Migrating my posts was somewhat of a hassle, but I did get them all migrated after reading this excellent article. I did have to manually clean up the bodies of most of my posts, but fortunately (?!) I haven’t been posting that often.
WordPress definitely has a lot more features, not to mention a plethora of updated themes.
Several caveats:
- You’ll lose all your comments
- Depending on how you uploaded images and other binaries, you might have to re-upload everything manually
- Make sure you keep your existing DasBlog instance running until you have moved everything over
